Sixteen-year-old Midnight is Sunrise’s colt. I owned him for thirteen of his so-far sixteen years. He was supposed to be my dream horse, but born without a navicular bone, he is lame. Although completely worthless in the eyes of many, he is my buddy and horse model. He appears on the cover of Quality Concealed, and on the cover and throughout Image of Deception. In November of 2008, I was able to take Midnight to Best Friends (www.bestfriends.org), a Heaven-on-earth animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, where he will live out the rest of his life. They have three full-time vets on staff and take wonderful care of him and his companions who have similar disabilities. I visit him whenever I get the chance.
